chapter 2 is talking about connecting the technology with the teaching. as we know, most of the teachers these days know how to use technology and also know how to teach, but using technology in teaching is the most difficult part. the chapter describes the use of computers in and out of school, and how both students and teachers could benefit from using the web.
it also discussed that the longer classes that the teacher has, the more opportunity to use technology. which is good to engage the students to the lessons.
Moreover, the students these days love the technology, so now the teachers are trying to connect technology with teaching to provide better lessons. this chapter is giving us different patters of technology to be used by teachers.
questions:
1\would the teacher like to have longer classes to be able to use technology?
2\would the teachers like to have the students working in groups instead of individually?
3\can the students do most of the work in class by doing some researches before class?

ReplyDeleteHi Nora,
ReplyDeleteQuestion 2 resonates with me a great deal. At this point, I would say I prefer individually because a) there may be less behavior issues with working individually and 2) students may stay on task more if they are working individually. One of the things I currently struggle with is how students can effectively work as groups using technology (particularly when they have to share a computer). One way to do this may be by giving each student in a group a different role (e.g. one student researches information on line, one student records information, one student reads the information, etc). This is a particular area of my practice that I look forward to improving when I am a teacher!

To answer your first question, I would love to have a longer amount of time to focus on one subject. With set up and clean up time, and getting the children focused there is not much instructional time. I feel that some teachers are trying whatever they can to get what they need to get done, done. If they have more time they can incorporate more "fun" lesson, especially with technology!
ReplyDeleteHi Nora,
ReplyDeleteI agree with some of the points you illustrated in your chapter review. I also feel it is essential for teachers to keep themselves updated with the latest technology and learn various ways in implementing technology in their classrooms to keep their students engaged. In response to your first question, classroom time should be extended but not so much that students start to lose their attention. Technology should be integrated during class time but it is also important that we don’t place great importance on just technology.
